The dot SE country-code domain extension was started in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration procedure was really restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were grabbed. Individuals were permitted to acquire no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was mandatory, i.e. only Swedish individuals, commercial entities and organizations were able to obtain a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, accordingly, the number of .SE domains has been rising each year.

At this time, anybody can purchase a dot SE domain name, which gives you the chance to get in touch with the Swedish Internet community even if you do not have a local presence.
